CNDC Assists Entrepreneurs

ECDI (Economic and Community Development Institute) formally launched the Cleveland program on July 17 and is open for applicants. The organization is a welcome resource for new and expanding neighborhood scale businesses in Cleveland. ECDI will fill a gap in the credit industry by offering loans to under-served entrepreneurs. CNDC is serving as a starting point for potential applicants in terms of getting them ready for loan application readiness.  If applicants are ready to move forward (have a complete business plan), they will be referred to an ECDI relationship manager.  If a small businessperson is not ready to submit a loan application to either ECDI or another funding source, there are several routes of assistance available. CNDC will help direct them to the most beneficial course of action. If you have a potential client or a small business ready for the next step, please direct them to Wendy Sattin at CNDC for an initial discussion. For more information about ECDI's loan program contact Eric Diamond at ediamond@ecdi.org or call 216-456-2673.

Biking Across Cleveland

CNDC is working with Bike Cleveland

to coordinate bicycle related activities in the city's neighborhoods.  A task force was formed to develop a communication network for CDCs that incorporate bicycling in their neighborhood improvement strategies.  At the first meeting, participants learned about neighborhood initiatives to add bike lanes to main roads throughout the city, reconstruction of sidewalks and crosswalks, connections to the parks and the Towpath Trail and events based on cycling.  Bike Cleveland maintains a comprehensive website, including bicycling events. CDCs are invited to contribute to the site.

From Colleen Gilson, Executive Director

As a 2011 American Marshall Memorial Fellow (AMMF) of the German Marshall Fund of the US, I have the distinct privilege of joining my fellow alumnus each year in welcoming the European Marshall Fellows to the US, specifically, our great City.  This year, I had the opportunity to share our US Independence Day with six new friends!  Mihaita Cazacu of Bucharest, Romania; Youssef Faraj of Brussels, Belgium; Jasa Jovićević of Podgorica, Montenegro; Vera Marin of Bucharest, Romania; Itxaso Muñoa Salaverria of Brussels, Belgium; and Vesselin Alexandrov Zahariev of Sofia, Bulgaria joined me (and fellow AMMF Zoe Carlisle) as participants in the Westpark Kiwanis Annual 4th of July Parade.  Along the parade route we shook hands and passed out candy to children.  My new friends marveled at how many people lined the streets celebrating America on her birthday!  Afterward, in true Westpark 4th of July tradition, we grabbed lunch and cold drinks ;) at one of the many local pubs where Zoe, my husband Sean and I relayed our passion for Cleveland to people experiencing our City for the first time. Truly, it was an honor to share a small piece of my family and neighborhood tradition with these remarkable people.  I am blessed to have expanded my circle of friends.  I am hopeful they once again return to the City I love!

If you can use any help, please call us at 216-928-8100.
