Do YOU Have Time to Help?
Research tells us the the presence of a caring adult in the life of a child can be dramatic and long reaching...  Experience Corps is an award winning national program creating local opportunities for older Americans to tutor or mentor young children in the Cleveland Schools.  Mentors spend lunch time once or twice a week with a 4th grader to support and encourage their improved academic attitude, social skills and self esteem.  Tutors work one on one with children in grades K through 3rd twice a week to focus on helping with basic reading skills.  In either role, both children and older adults are winners.  The children benefit from the relationship that develops with their mentors and from the academic help provided by the tutor.  The adults say they get back way more than they give.  Experience Corps is hosted by Greater Cleveland Volunteers.  To get involved, please call 216-391-9500, est. 125.

Call for Artists--CPAC's Creative Workforce Fellowship  Every day, artists are investing in the future of Cuyahoga County...from the architect that's transforming an urban neighborhood to the filmmaker who's in the middle of a groundbreaking feature.  They're strengthening the face of our economy, our educaton system and our community's quality of life.  The Community Partnership for Arts and Culture (CPAC) is investing directly in the future of these community champions.  Applications are currently available for the 2011 cycle of the Creative Workforce Fellowship, a program that will provide $20,000 to 20 Cuyahoa County craft, design, media and visual artists.  Part 1 of the application is due July 30, 2010 at 5pm EST. and Part 2 is due September 10, 2010 at 5pm EST.  For more information about the program, including entry requirements, tips for submitting a competitive application and information about the five informational workshops that will be offered, visit www.cpacbiz.org/business/cwf.shtml, or contact Valerie Schumacher at vls@cpacbiz.org or call her at 216-575-0331, ext.2.  The CWF is made possible by the generous funding of Cuyahoga Arts and Culture.

CNDC welcomes new member, the Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Corporation (CCLRC)  CNDC is proud to welcome the County Land Bank to our supporting member group.  The mission of the Land bank is four-fold:  to facilitate the acquisition, recclamation, rehabilitation, and reutilization of vacant, abondoned tax-foreclosed or other real property; to efficiently hold and manage real property pending reclamation, rehabilitation and reutilization; to assist governmental entities and other non-profit or for-profit entities in the assembly of real property and the cleaning of title in a coordinated manner; and to promote the healthy, sustainable economic and housing development of the county and region. In April 2009, the Ohio General Assembly passed new legislation allowing the formation of county land reutilization corporations (LRCs).  The Cuyahoga County LRC is the first to be established in the State of Ohio.  The CCLRC has many options for what to do with property it acquires, but each Cuyahoga County city is a major partner in the decision regarding what will be done with property in their jurisdiction.  Properties that have potential to be returned to the real estate market may be rehabilitated through CCLRC programs or may be sold to qualified private rehabbers.  Properties for which there is little hope for rehabilitation will be demolished and the resulting vacant land may be used to create public green space for urban agriculture, storm water management or for other innovative or ecological purposes.  The CCLRC aims to end the unbridled land speculation and flipping of foreclosed properties that has contributed to the current housing crisis.  For further information about the CCLRC, please visit www.cuyahogalandbank.org or call 216-698-8853.
