Business Committee Secures Grant from Ohio State
University A proposal submitted
by the Sustainable Business Subcommittee of the Economic
Development Committee was one of six projects awarded grants
through the Farmland Protection Partnership Program that
supports community-based agricultural economic development
planning projects in Ohio. The grant will fund a study
to identify potential indoor agricultural initiatives that
could lead to an indoor agricultural economic development
engine in Cleveland. The subcommittee is partnering with
Baldwin-Wallace College in this effort. "Agriculture has
long been a cornerstone of Ohio's economy, and it is our hope
that these grants will be used to foster new and innovative
approaches to agriculture that will serve as an engine for
Ohio's agricultural future," said Jill Clark, director of the
Farmland Policy Innovation Center. The program is
coordinated by Ohio State University's Center for Farmland
Policy Innovation, housed in the Department of Agricultural,
Environmental and Development Economics.

Training Now Available to Landlords
Beginning in April of 2010, property owners
doing work on their own rental properties are required to be
certified through the U.S. EPA in Renovate, Repair and Paint
methods. In order to receive a valid certification,
landlords are required to attend and complete a one (1) day
workshop. As a result of this, the Cleveland Tenants
Organization is offering RRP training for landlords at a
reduced rate. The normal cost for the workshop is $250,
but the Cleveland Tenants Organization is able to offer a
reduced rate of $100 per landlord. The training
will take place on Saturday, November 5th and Tuesday,
November 22 from 8a-4p. The
training will take place at the CTO headquarters located at
3631 Perkins Avenue, Suite #3A-4, Cleveland, 44114.
Cash, money orders, credit cards and checks will be
accepted. Class size is limited to 25 landlords per
session. To register and for more information, please
call CTO at 216-432-0617.

Planting the Seeds of a
Stronger Community CNDC is proud
to announce that Cudell Improvement was one of 20 winners
across the country to win an orchard by Edy's Fruit Bars
as part of their Communities Take Root Program. On
August 30th, community members and volunteers gathered at 8611
Detroit Avenue and took part in a ceremonial tree planting,
watched a planting demonstration and listened to an arborist
talk about fruit tree aftercare. The Cudell neighborhood
is looking forward to all the benefits the orchard will
bring: fresh fruit for kids' nutrition programs,
greener public spaces for everyone to enjoy, not to mention a
healthier, more vibrant neighborhood. The staff of
Cudell Improvement would like to thank everyone who voted for
them, making this dream a reality.
